The role of the senior communications specialist is to plan, develop and implement internal and external PR strategies that support corporate reputation and division marketing communication objectives. This person will be called upon to help develop and execute various components of PR campaigns and should be well-versed in the use of various media tools to support the programs.
The senior public affairs specialist assists with key message development, media pitching, media monitoring, development of PR plans and research. The senior communications specialist also produces various written materials including press releases, fact sheets, talking points and may support PR agency management on smaller projects.
External
Develops/produces key communications vehicles/materials including press releases, web strategy, talking points and manages approval process for materials. Can manage logistics and media relations on publicity/community "events".
Develops story-lines and pitches to media, coordinates interviews, prepares spokespeople for proactive media relations that does not involve risk.
Builds ongoing relationships with local, trade and national media. Develops Abbott/product story-lines and pitches stories to media. Serves as spokesperson on behalf of the company to a variety of media.
Conducts media monitoring and develops results reporting.
Internal
Assists with development and management of internal communications strategies, objectives and programs with clear and consistent messages.
Designs and develops employee communication materials, including newsletters and other internal communications and supports development of executive communications.
Sometimes manages event-related activities, which includes writing and developing meeting collateral, including executive speeches/presentations, overviews, timeliness, signage and handouts. Identifies and manages appropriate vendors for event components.
